Pro Tip of the Day - smb2 http://protipoftheday.com/taxonomy/term/288/0 en Pro tip: Skipping most of Level 1-2 in Super Mario Bros. 2 http://protipoftheday.com/node/473
In Super Mario Bros. 2, you can skip large amounts of the game if you're so inclined by using the jumping abilities of The Princess and Luigi.

Take Stage 1-2, for example. Instead of going down the Jar to grab a key, unlock a door, and go through a cave, you could choose Luigi and head for the Ninjis that are standing near the door.

Pick one up and chuck it so it lands somewhere underneath the real high green mesa.

It will start jumping

Hop on its head and begin charging for a Super Jump (by holding Down) and hit the Jump button when the Ninji is at the apex of its jump. Done right, you'll be on top of the hill!

And ready to run right to the end of the stage!

Cutting this stage down to just a couple of minutes.
NES pro tip smas smb2 SNES technique Thu, 08 Jul 2010 11:58:56 +0000 Will 473 at http://protipoftheday.com Pro tip: Skipping a huge chunk of stage 4-3 in Super Mario Bros. 2 http://protipoftheday.com/node/449
Stage 4-3 of Super Mario Bros. 2 is a kind of long one. You have to go across an impossible-to-jump-over gap, then climb up one tower and down another before fighting the boss of the area.

But you can skip most of that.

First, choose the Princess.

Ride the Birdo Egg across the gap as normal

Then, instead of going through the door, make a flying leap toward the right.

Once you land, go in the second door on that platform

To skip right to the boss's chamber!

This cuts the stage down to just a couple of minutes... unless you go in that door that I told you to not go in. That one is locked on the other side, which will require you to scale the tower, grab a key, and then go back down, which totally negates taking this shortcut in the first place.
NES pro tip smb2 technique Fri, 04 Jun 2010 12:11:29 +0000 Will 449 at http://protipoftheday.com Pro tip: sacrificing an extra life in Super Mario Bros. 2 http://protipoftheday.com/node/303
In Super Mario Bros. 2 if you pause the game

Then press Up + A + B on controller 2, then unpause, your life is over.

And you might be thinking to yourself, "That's stupid, why would I want to do that?"

Well, let's suppose that you were playing stage 5-2 (the one where you have to ride an Albatoss or Beezo across a giant pit)

And at the end you're feeling silly and you run and jump up on the Mask Gate before it opens.

And just like that, you're stuck in a wall.

There are only two ways out, sacrificing one of your extra lives or resetting your NES.

Guess which one I recommend?
button codes NES pro tip smb2 Thu, 12 Nov 2009 13:12:15 +0000 Will 303 at http://protipoftheday.com
