Pro Tip of the Day - super mario rpg http://protipoftheday.com/taxonomy/term/435/0 en Pro tip: Finding the last hidden treasure chest in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars http://protipoftheday.com/node/493
Play through Super Mario RPG and you'll eventually discover that there are hidden treasure chests all over the place that contain some goodies. You even get an item that 'dings' when you enter an area that has one, making it easier to find them. There's one room, though, that gave me fits for a while: the hallway to the Mushroom Castle.

It turns out that you only have one shot per game to get this box. When you talk to the Toad and he starts walking down the hall, you have to jump on his head

And then jump on top of the door

Where you'll find the hidden chest

This is the only chance you'll have to grab it, and if this is the first time you're playing this game, you probably won't even know that you're supposed to be looking for hidden boxes. It's pretty devious, really.
pro tip SNES super mario rpg Thu, 05 Aug 2010 12:00:13 +0000 Will 493 at http://protipoftheday.com Pro tip: Classic Mario cameo in Super Mario RPG http://protipoftheday.com/node/26
Super Mario RPG took Mario from the boring two-dimensional guy he'd been for... well, for his whole 'life' and gave him the ability to move in some kind of pseudo three-dimensional space, pretty neat.

But, just for fun, there are references to old Mario stuff all over the place, like in Booster's Tower. Go far enough in, and you'll find this room.

Pretty bland, right? But those curtains... Walk back behind them and you'll hear some classic music start to play, and when you step out...

You can't really do much like that, though, and the effect wears off as soon as you try to leave the room. You should note, though, that you can only do this once. Save the game after you do it and you won't be able to do it again unless you start the whole game over again.
pro tip SNES super mario rpg Wed, 12 Nov 2008 13:00:00 +0000 Will 26 at http://protipoftheday.com
